Paper Types and Descriptions

What’s the difference? Coated vs Uncoated

Coated

Coated paper is smooth, shiny, and commonly used in the printing of full color brochures, magazines, art books, and book covers. Coated paper is more resistant to dirt and it restricts the amount of bleeding that occurs in an image. This type of paper is desirable for sharp and complex images, as ink won’t run and reduce the sharpness of the image. Not desirable for business cards. This stock is not a good choice for printed materials that need to be written on.

Uncoated (No Coating)

Uncoated (No Coating) - Uncoated paper does not have a coating, and it tends to be the more absorbent of the two types. It is also less smooth. Uncoated paper is typically used in projects like letterheads, envelopes, and booklets. This stock is a good choice for printed materials that need to be written on.
